Ronaldo brings a breath of fresh air: does he want to save Brazilian football?
A major change is underway in Brazilian football: the legend Ronaldo has announced his candidacy for president of the Brazilian Football Association CBF. At a time when the association is plagued by legal problems and mismanagement, the two-time world champion in 1994 and 2002 sees the need for a breath of fresh air. Ronaldo planned to replace Ednaldo Rodrigues, the current president. The regular election is scheduled for March 2026, but early elections could potentially take place as early as 2025 if the situation does not improve. Loud Mirror Ronaldo is convinced that there has been a standstill for 20 years and everyone is dissatisfied.
Ronaldo's ambitions and challenges
In order to be officially approved as a candidate, Ronaldo wants to win the support of national associations and clubs. He says he wants to restore Brazilian football to its former glory at international level after the national team has only reached the semi-finals of a World Cup once since 2002. Current President Rodrigues only holds office thanks to an injunction from the Supreme Court, joining a long list of CBF presidents with legal problems. His predecessor was suspended for sexual harassment, and previous incumbents also faced corruption, underscoring the need for change, such as oe24 reported.
Ronaldo has dedicated himself to football business since retiring in 2011 and has invested in clubs such as Cruzeiro and Real Valladolid, among others. However, he faces the challenge of selling his shares in Valladolid should he take over the presidency of the CBF to avoid conflicts of interest. Despite the difficulties, he is determined and his application is seen as part of his plan to make Brazilian football more transparent and efficient. Negotiations over the sale of the shares are already underway and Ronaldo expects these to be completed soon.
