Carinthia's new map of resistance: A legacy of the historical struggle

An important new “Map of Resistance” will be presented in Klagenfurt on February 28th, documenting over 100 important places of remembrance in the state of Carinthia. This card is a powerful symbol of remembrance of the anti-fascist resistance and persecution by the Nazi regime. The presentation will take place in the Haček bookstore and will be presented by the Association of Carinthian Partisans. Elsa Logar and Jakob Holzer created the map in collaboration with local activists. It is based on information from the online platform erinnerungslandschaft.at and offers impressive documentation that ranges from hiding places for refugee partisans to memorial sites for the victims of Nazi terror, as klick-kaernten.at reports.

Lecture and discussion on the culture of remembrance

At the event, Klaus Schönberger from the University of Klagenfurt will give a lecture on the cultural relevance of resistance. The map creators Logar and Holzer then discuss the creation of the map and its significance for today's society. This discussion is particularly important because it points to the lasting relevance of resistance against fascism and promotes social engagement with history, which is also important in research on the Slovenian resistance between 1941 and 1945, as academia.edu shows. These research considerations address the multifaceted complexity of resistance in Slovenia and the challenges that arise in coming to terms with this history.

Admission to the event is free, which facilitates access to the culture of remembrance and helps raise awareness of the important role of resistance among a broader public. The map is therefore seen not only as a historical document, but also as a current reference point in the discussion about commemoration and remembering. This initiative highlights the important role of places of remembrance, which are essential to the region's identity and collective memory.
