Pforzheim: Only a quarter of the investment budget is realized!
The city of Pforzheim is facing a financial dilemma! With an investment budget of an impressive 88 million euros for this year, only a fraction - around 23 million euros - is in danger of actually being implemented. This is a real shock for the city, which has often set itself high goals in the past, but has never achieved more than 39 million euros per year. Projects that are important for citizens, such as the island campus and the Reuchlin-Gymnasium cafeteria, are stagnating and are on the brink!
The city administration has recognized that a new strategy is necessary. In the future, investments should be limited to a maximum of 40 million euros per year in order to enable more realistic planning. “Writing a lot into the budget and hoping that it will be implemented is not the right way!” explains a city spokesman. This shift in thinking is critical to providing citizens and the city with better financial planning and more voice.
A look at the challenges
The challenges are enormous: Despite the high budget, implementation falls short of expectations. Pforzheim now has to set priorities in order to use the limited resources efficiently. Citizens are curious to see which projects can still be realized and whether the city administration can really change course. So a financial restart is imminent, and citizens' eyes are on the coming decisions!
