John Lennon in Verden: An unforgettable shoot with the Beatles!

John Lennon, the legendary Beatle, came to Verden in September 1966 to film scenes for the anti-war film “How I Won the War”. It was during this filming that the then 14-year-old Harry Schwertner met his idol. He had found out from his father that there was filming in the city and skipped school to see Lennon. He was overwhelmed when he actually met the world star and was able to get him two autographs, as in a report by District newspaper is explained.

A new book brings back memories

Schwertner, the co-founder of the Beatles regulars' table in Verden, has published a book together with Gerd Coordes entitled "John Lennon - a Beatle in Verden". This not only documents Schwertner's personal moment with Lennon, but also captures extensive memories of other contemporary witnesses. The first copies of the book are already sold out and a second edition is planned to be published next spring. The film itself is described as not particularly outstanding, but Lennon's involvement has given it a certain cult status, according to reports NDR is reported.

In the city of Verden, the announcement of the book is celebrated as exciting news. Schwertner and Coordes' commitment is highly valued as it brings to light the rare anecdotes surrounding Lennon's stay and thus enriches the local musical culture. Plans are already underway to present this documentation in December, with an English translation also being offered.
