On Wednesday morning, November 19, 2025, there was a serious traffic accident at around 7:30 a.m. on the A8 near Aufham, Berchtesgadener Land district. A young man skidded with his tractor-mowing trailer combination, broke through the central barrier and overturned on the opposite lane. Despite the dramatic incident, the driver only suffered minor injuries.
There was no collision with other vehicles, nor were any other road users injured. The accident was noticed by other drivers, and a private emergency doctor immediately provided first aid. “First aid is crucial in such situations,” emphasizes the DGUV and reminds us of the important role of first aiders, who should act quickly and carefully in the event of an accident.
Emergency services on site
An emergency call was made, whereupon the Traunstein control center dispatched the Piding volunteer fire department and the Bad Reichenhall Red Cross with an ambulance and an emergency doctor. The emergency services looked after the injured driver and took him to the Bad Reichenhall district clinic for further treatment. The fire department was also responsible for securing the overturned tractor and collecting resources to prevent possible environmental damage.
The A8 towards Munich had to be completely closed at times throughout the operation. The traffic jam extended far beyond the state border, causing significant traffic disruptions. Estimated material damage is around 400,000 euros. The reporting highlights that the Fastrac tractor involved is registered for use on motorways, which made the circumstances of the accident particularly dangerous.
The Traunstein traffic police station recorded the accident in order to clarify exactly what happened. The incident not only highlights the risks in road traffic, but also the importance of other road users reacting quickly to prevent anything worse from happening.
