Teenager without a driving license: Spectacular accident at Andorf train station!
A spectacular accident occurred on Friday evening, February 28, 2025, when a 17-year-old novice driver from the Schärding district was driving a car in the municipality of Andorf with an alcohol level of over 1.2 per mille. At around 10:45 p.m., the teenager, who was driving without a license, drove a car towards Ziegeleistrasse and drove head-on into a glass wall at the train station. This collision was so violent that the vehicle was catapulted over the underpass and onto the railway tracks. Fortunately, the driver and his two passengers, a 23-year-old from the Ried district and a 15-year-old from Schärding, were able to free themselves from the car in time before an approaching freight train rammed the car. Despite the dramatic situation, all three occupants were only slightly injured and were taken to the Ried hospital, as the Upper Austria police confirmed.
The police, alerted by the strong smell of alcohol, gave the teenager an alcohol test, which revealed the unthinkable: with a blood alcohol level of 1.24, he was definitely not able to drive safely. The fire department was also on duty to secure the scene of the accident and help with the rescue. It's another alarming incident in a district already known for its challenges. According to information about the Schärding district where the accident occurred, over 58,000 people live and the region struggles with commuter and economic conditions that have often been an issue in the past. This makes the ongoing risks posed by drunk driving all the more serious, as such incidents endanger not only those driving, but also uninvolved third parties.
Drunk driving endangers lives
The incident in Andorf is not only further evidence of how devastating drunk driving can be, but reminders of responsibility and safety on the road are made painfully clear in a cruel way. While the police investigation is ongoing, it is clear that these risky decisions require immediate and strict action given the consequences. The region, known for its beautiful landscapes and historical places, should not only serve as a backdrop for tragic events, but also as an area of responsibility for all road users.
