Great fire in St. Marein: 20 fire brigades in constant use!

On Thursday, March 20, 2025, a devastating major fire occurred in Lamberg, St. Marein community near Graz, which completely destroyed a business and adjacent buildings. The first alarm reached the Petersdorf II volunteer fire brigade at 6:44 p.m., whereupon 20 fire brigades from the Feldbach, Graz-Umgeben, Weiz and Leibnitz regions were mobilized. A total of around 205 firefighters were on duty to combat the inferno, which was already in full fire when the first rescue workers arrived, such as fireworld.at

Within a few minutes, there was a flue gas threat, which continued to speak the fire and even caught an adjacent residential building and vehicles in the parking lot. Despite the intensive deletion measures, the situation seemed to be out of control. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the fire brigade, however, further buildings were affected. During the challenging commitment, a total of three fire officers were injured, two medical care in the LKH Feldbach received. The operations management was under the command of Commandant Gottfried Hofer. The fire could finally be brought under control at 9:00 p.m., but the post -extinguishing work continued until morning. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is examined by the local authorities. A fire security guard of the fire brigade remains in use to combat possible embers. The situation on site is still intensively observed.
