Spark Festival in Vorarlberg: Chaos and fire magic on Sunday!

On the night of March 9, 2025, the St. Anton Spark Guild's long preparation period was abruptly ended by a premature fire at the Spark. Despite this setback, the committed radio guild members did not give up. They immediately set their sights on a new spark that would be set ablaze on the evening of Spark Sunday at 7:00 p.m. The St. Anton and Lorüns fire department was recognized for their quick response to this unfortunate situation after they quickly brought the flames under control ORF Vorarlberg reported.

The weekend is all about the traditional winter expulsion, with over 130 sparks burning throughout Vorarlberg. On Friday, March 7th, a variety of events were held, including torch relays and the burning of several sparks in the communities of Hohenems and Götzis, which captivated the audience. Further spectacular torchlight processions and bonfires also took place on Saturday, March 8th, where, among others, the community of Wolfurt put on an impressive fireworks display. This was also evident in events planned for Sunday, which include a variety of children's torchlight parades and the grand illumination of sparks at 7 p.m. in various locations such as RZG reported.

The preparations and commitment of the communities are unmistakable, because despite the challenges, the Vorarlberg tradition of sparking shows in all its glory. With a lot of enthusiasm and community work, the fine art of winter sprouting has been kept alive, even if it was overshadowed by incidents such as the fire in St. Anton.
