Fire brigade influencer Nadine Kube: Women's power in Wedel!
In Wedel, Schleswig-Holstein, Nadine Kube breaks stereotypes and shows that women in the fire department can not only keep up, but also lead! The 34-year-old fire department influencer has worked her way up to become the first female group leader of the volunteer fire department in Wedel and inspires numerous women with her commitment. Almost 20 years ago she was the only woman in the force, but today she is a shining example of perseverance and strength.
Kube, who sets off on a training mission in full combat clothing, remembers the challenges of her early days: “There were a lot of prejudices: women were too weak and didn’t understand anything about technology.” But she didn't allow herself to be discouraged and managed almost 2,000 missions, from fires to serious traffic accidents. Your mission? Saving lives and encouraging other women to get involved too.
A role model for many
With around 20,000 followers on Instagram, Kube regularly shares exciting insights into her everyday life as a firefighter. Her videos reach hundreds of thousands and show how important it is to make women visible in the fire service. "In this day and age, I think it's normal for women to belong. And I want to show that," she explains as she takes her followers into the emergency vehicle. There is currently an exercise in which a child is trapped between concrete blocks - a scenario that Kube and her team want to master with technical sophistication.
The Schleswig-Holstein State Fire Brigade Association supports Kube's commitment and emphasizes the importance of women in the fire department: "Women in the fire department are indispensable and a real asset." With an eleven percent share of women in the state's volunteer fire departments, the situation has improved, but Kube is certain: "That's not enough!" She continues to fight for more women to find their way into the fire service and discover their passion for service.
