Drama in Seiersberg: Dog rescued in overheated car!
On April 5, 2025, a dramatic incident occurred in the parking lot of a shopping center in Seiersberg when a 24-year-old discovered a dog in an overheated car. At around 3:30 p.m., the woman noticed that the dog was sitting apathetically in the car and not responding. Although she tried to call the driver, she was unsuccessful. The woman then called the police to rescue the dog, which appeared to be in a life-threatening situation.
When officers arrived, it was discovered that the dog's neck leash was caught on the rear headrest. Despite several attempts to locate the owner in the shopping center, they were unsuccessful. Due to the worrying situation, which indicated an acute danger to the life of the animal, a rear side window of the vehicle was broken in consultation with Tierhilfe Steiermark and an official veterinarian in order to free the dog. He received first aid and fortunately recovered.
Warning of the dangers
The 57-year-old vehicle owner returned around 5 p.m. and explained that she had been shopping and had not noticed the time. The incident prompts an urgent warning from police about the dangers of leaving animals in vehicles on hot days. Even at temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius, things can quickly become dangerous in the car, as it gets significantly hotter within a short period of time.
In the event of such a discovery, experts recommend that you first locate the dog's owners. If this is not possible, the police should be contacted on the emergency number 110 or the fire department on 112. Only in acute emergencies, such as those that can occur when the animal is panting heavily, staggering or listless, may windows be broken in order to free the animal.
Legal aspects
Breaking car windows to save animals can have legal consequences. It is therefore advisable to call in witnesses who can confirm the need for rescue and to take photos or videos as evidence. This ensures that there is proof of the situation in the event of legal disputes.
According to the German Animal Protection Act, the protection of animals is very important. It is important to take the responsibilities that pet owners have seriously. Animals are sensitive creatures and need appropriate conditions in order to live healthily and safely. This also applies to puppies, the rearing of which is subject to special requirements designed to ensure the health and well-being of the animals.
In view of these incidents, the importance of educating pet owners is reiterated in order to avoid similar incidents in the future.
