21-year-old admits fire in Wolfsberg home – motive unclear!
In a dramatic incident in August 2023, an apartment building in Wolfsberg caught fire. Now, more than a year later, the suspected arsonist has been identified: a 21-year-old man from the Wolfsberg district has admitted to setting the fire. However, despite his confessions, he remained vague about the motive behind his dangerous actions, puzzling investigators. How meinkreis.at reported, the fire developed on August 15th at 10:15 a.m. in the stairwell of the residential building when wooden boxes stored there caught fire and caused massive smoke.
The quick intervention of the Wolfsberg and St. Michael volunteer fire departments with a total of 35 emergency services was able to prevent anything worse from happening. Thanks to their efforts, the building remained habitable, but three people had to be taken to the LKH Wolfsberg due to suspected smoke poisoning. The material damage is estimated at several tens of thousands of euros. An attentive team of investigators was able to trace a DNA trail back to the 21-year-old, which ultimately led to his arrest kaernten.ORF.at reported.
The release of this information is particularly important as it informs the security situation in the region about the serious risk of arson. The path to a final resolution of the case could be further complicated by the defendant's unclear motive. Nevertheless, the case shows how flames - often caused by human activity - can unexpectedly threaten the lives of many people and shake neighborhoods.
