Women are celebrating a comeback on the Streif: ski spectacle in March 2025!

A historic comeback is on the horizon in Kitzbühel, as women will be skiing the legendary Streif again for the first time since 1961! On March 8th and 9th, 2025, two women's Super-Gs in the European Cup will take place on the famous race track. Kitzbühel Ski Club President Michael Huber is enthusiastic: “We have women’s races again,” he explains with joy in an interview with the “Tiroler Tageszeitung”. For him it is a “project close to his heart” that is finally being realized. The races start at 10:30 a.m., with the athletes starting at the mousetrap floor.

The ladies on the Streif – a spectacle in a class of its own

With a cast of 15 Austrian runners, including discipline leader Nadine Fest, the Austrian team will be strong. Nadine Fest is considered a “Streif expert” and has already written about the myth of this route. What is unique is that the women will not ride the entire route; Parts such as the infamous Mousetrap, Bridge Shot and Alte Schneise are bypassed. Nevertheless, it is new territory for all athletes and requires courage and endurance. They have the opportunity to visit the track on Friday to prepare for the event. Reinhard Fernsebner, group trainer for the speed women, is confident: “I have a lot of confidence in our women.”

The races will not only be a highlight for the audience, but will also be broadcast on television. ORF will show the competitions from 10:25 a.m. on Sport+, with a summary of Saturday at 6:35 p.m. on ORF one. The approval for this return of the women in Kitzbühel gives rise to the hope that this could be the beginning of a new tradition in alpine skiing. There have been no women's races in the Gamsstadt in the last 64 years, and so the weekend of March 8th and 9th, 2025 will not only be sporting, but also historically relevant, as noted in the article by “Krone”.

The anticipation for this event is great and expectations are high. “It will definitely be a spectacle,” says Fernsebner and you can tell that the women are ready to make history again. The women's return to the Streif is more than just a race; it is a significant signal for equality in winter sports.
