South Korea is considering supplying arms to Ukraine: North Korea is threatening!
A dramatic turning point in the geopolitical landscape: South Korea is seriously considering supplying weapons directly to Ukraine! President Yoon Suk-yeol announced in a press conference that support for Ukraine will not be ruled out after North Korea sent troops to support Russia. This alarming development poses a direct threat to Seoul as North Korea's soldiers gain much-needed combat experience and are rewarded with sensitive military technology by Moscow in return.
“Depending on the extent of North Korean involvement, we will gradually adjust our support strategy,” Yoon said. “This means that we do not rule out the possibility of providing weapons.” This is a notable change of policy for South Korea, which traditionally does not supply weapons to countries in conflict. Yoon emphasized that if an arms shipment occurs, defensive weapons will be prioritized first. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov reported that the Ukrainian army has already had its first confrontation with North Korean soldiers, further inflaming tensions.
North Korea's role in the Ukraine conflict
North Korea has emerged as one of Russia's most vocal supporters in the Ukraine conflict. The country has reportedly sent 10,000 troops to Russia, suggesting deeper interference. Yoon announced that his office would closely monitor developments surrounding North Korean troops. “If we proceed with weapons support, we would prioritize defensive weapons as a first consideration,” he added, without giving further details.
In another step to strengthen security cooperation, South Korea and the United States signed a five-year plan to increase South Korea's cost-sharing contributions to U.S. bases. Yoon emphasized the need to work with the new US government to build a perfect security situation and maintain freedom and peace. Geopolitical tensions are rising as North Korea and Russia tighten their military ties, pushing the world into a new phase of instability.
