A tragic incident on the B9 in Petronell-Carnuntum claimed one life on Tuesday and left a passenger seriously injured. The 52-year-old driver died at the scene of the accident, while his 27-year-old passenger was flown to the Wiener Neustadt University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to the police, the vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane around 9:30 a.m. and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, whose 28-year-old driver fortunately only suffered minor injuries. The violent impact resulted in the truck's left front wheel being torn off and the truck also crashed through a guardrail before coming to rest on an embankment.

At the same time, another incident occurred on another stretch of the B9, where a 36-year-old drunk truck driver crashed into a checkpoint and damaged several warning beacons, light poles and company vehicles. In this incident, which took place on December 24, two police officers were injured in one of the office containers, but they only sustained minor injuries. An alcohol test carried out showed 1.8 per mille, which meant that his driver's license was revoked and a blood sample was ordered.
