Kim Kardashian testifies at burglary trial in France

Kim Kardashian will testify Tuesday in the Paris trial of the burglars who tied up and robbed the billionaire reality TV icon at gunpoint nearly nine years ago.

Details of the robbery during Paris Fashion Week

The reality TV star will recount her experiences during the 2016 Paris Fashion Week heist, in which nearly $10 million in cash and jewelry was stolen, including a $4 million engagement ring that was never recovered.

First encounter with the defendants

It will be the first time Kardashian will face the alleged perpetrators in court. The defendants - made up of nine men and one woman aged 30 to 70 - face charges of armed robbery, kidnapping and conspiracy. Eight of them denied any involvement, while two admitted minor offences.

Repeat offenders and prior criminal behavior

Several of the defendants are repeat offenders and the start of the trial focused on their previous criminal histories. The trial opened on April 28 in a packed courtroom in the French capital.

Statements from witnesses

The court heard testimony Thursday from Kardashian's bodyguard as well as her driver, who claimed to have no memory of the events on the night in question, although he allegedly found the building's receptionist tied up when he arrived, CNN affiliate BFMTV reports.

Kardashian's emotional moment in court

The bodyguard, identified only as Pascal D., said he found Kardashian "hysterically crying" when he arrived.

The “grandpa robbers” and their possible punishment

The group is referred to as the “Grandpa Robbers.” Of the original 12 suspects, one has since died and another defendant, suffering from Alzheimer's disease, has been declared incompetent to stand trial. If convicted, some of the remaining defendants could face up to 30 years in prison.

Process delays and outlook

The trial has been delayed for years, including due to significant cases such as the incidents surrounding the 2015 Paris terrorist attacks. The trial is scheduled to end on May 22, with an expected verdict on May 23.
