EU boss Borrell in Kyiv: Unsignificant support for Ukraine!

The EU is firmly on the side of Ukraine! After Donald Trump's surprising election victory in the United States, the European Union, Josep Borrell, made an unshakable commitment to support Ukraine during his first visit to Kiev. "This support is absolutely necessary so that you can defend yourself against Russian aggression," said Borrell on Saturday, while the worries about future US aid are growing.

Trump indicated that Ukraine may have to accept outdoor losses in order to achieve peace with Russia - an idea that met a sharp rejection in Kiev. President Wolodymyr Selenskyj has urged European and American leaders not to loosen the relationships. "It is unacceptable for Ukraine and for all of Europe," emphasized Selenskyj. "We need sufficient weapons, no support in conversations."

Russian attacks and EU help

The situation on the front remains tense: at least one person was killed in the Black Sea city of Odessa, and over 30 others were injured when Russia started a wave of drones and rocket attacks on Ukraine. At least 25 people were also injured in Charkiw. Borrell warned that Russia does not want to negotiate unless it is forced to do so. "We have to do more and faster: more military support, more training capacities, more money and faster deliveries," he said.

The EU has spent around $ 125 billion in the invasion of Russia in 2022 for the support of Ukraine, while the United States has provided over $ 90 billion. Maintaining US help is crucial, especially at a time of political uncertainty in important European countries. With Trump's election victory, however, it could be more difficult to achieve a consensus on military support within the EU, since countries like Hungary who are against military help feel encouraged.
