Patriots meeting in Madrid: The path to reconquering Europe!
On February 8, 2025, leading figures of the European ultra-right movement gathered in Madrid under the banner of “Patriots for Europe”. Herbert Kickl, the head of the FPÖ, described the meeting as an “alliance of reason” that is intended to strengthen common strategies to achieve political goals. At this conference, attended by prominent representatives such as Marine Le Pen, Matteo Salvini and Viktor Orbán, participants sought to break the dominance of the traditional conservative and social democratic parties in the EU Parliament. According to Kickl, surveys show that right-wing extremist parties are receiving increasing support, especially among younger voters. He explained: “The citizens of our country want change, a policy that identifies solely with the interests of their own people.”
The meeting took place in a packed Madrid hotel, where speakers also highlighted Donald Trump's influence on nationalist movements in Europe. There was agreement among the participants that Brussels had not learned from its mistakes and that the existing order of “elitist-oriented” politics in the EU was no longer sustainable. Orbán outlined a “reconquest of Europe” that was linked to Trump’s “America First” policy. Speakers called for a return to traditional values and a determined fight against issues such as illegal immigration and “climate fanaticism”. The desire to free Europe from the supposed constraints of the EU centralists was also expressed, which Abascal, the conference host, confirmed.
Important demands of the patriots
The leaders of the ultra-right parties from a total of 14 European countries, which received around 19 million votes in the last EU elections, are united by the call to “give Europe back its greatness”. These statements were applauded in the auditorium, which was filled with 2,000 participants, where the idea of a new political course in Europe was also propagated. Abascal stressed that the time has come for mass movements and uprisings against the establishment. The conference continues the following day with a grand closing event as participants continue to discuss the future of Europe.
The meeting illustrates how European politicians from the ultra-right scene are trying to unite around the common goal of gaining influence in the EU institutions and making the ideas of their movements the norm. Political change in Europe is sought, inspired by Trump's achievements and the demand for a Europe based on national identity, tradition and sovereignty, as well as by elpais.com and kleinezeitung.at was reported.
