Newly opened bioenergy plant in Weikendorf relies on wood from the region!
On December 5, 2024, a new biomass local heating plant was ceremoniously opened in Weikendorf. State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, together with Mayor Johann Zimmermann, Deputy Mayor Robert Jobst and other guests, unveiled the information and service details of the facility. This innovative facility will ensure the heat supply for the kindergarten and the Weikendorf elementary school. The source of biological energy is regional wood, which is obtained from the forests in the communities of Weikendorf and Weiden. The active management of these forests makes it possible to use wood ranges that were previously difficult to market sustainably, which is important both economically and ecologically bioenergie-noe.at was reported.
The biomass plant has a total output of 150 kilowatts and took about a year to implement. This cooperation between Bioenergie Lower Austria and the communities of Weikendorf and Weiden marks a significant move away from natural gas heating. By switching to sustainable biomass, around 51,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions are expected to be saved annually, which represents a valuable contribution to climate protection. This not only promotes local value creation, but also takes an important step towards a more climate-friendly energy supply ots.at.
Bioenergie Lower Austria acts as a cooperative and brings several members together to ensure a responsible and sustainable heat supply. The members of this cooperative can be farmers as well as municipalities, which creates a stable operator group for the new systems. This initiative will not only convert the energy supply to renewable resources, but will also leave a significant ecological footprint.
