Newly opened bioenergy facility in Weikendorf relies on wood from the region!
Weikendorf, Österreich - On December 5, 2024, a new biomass-up heating system was ceremoniously opened in Weikendorf. Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, together with Mayor Johann Zimmermann, Vice Mayor Robert Jobst and other guests, unveiled the information and performance details of the facility. This innovative institution will ensure heat supply for kindergarten and the Weikendorf elementary school. The source of biological energy is regional wood, which is obtained from the forests of the municipalities of Weikendorf and pastures. The active economy of these forests enables wooden range that were previously difficult to market to use sustainably, which is both economically and ecologically important, as was reported on bioenergie-noe.at
The biomass system has a total output of 150 kilowatts, and its implementation lasted about a year. This cooperation between Bioenergie Lower Austria and the municipalities of Weikendorf and Weiden marks a significant departure from natural gas heating. By switching to sustainable biomass, around 51,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions are to be saved annually, which represents a valuable contribution to climate protection. This not only promotes local value creation, but also taking an important step towards a more climate -friendly energy supply, emphasizes ots.at
The Bioenergie NÖ acts as a cooperative and brings several members together to ensure responsible and sustainable heat supply. The members of this cooperative can be farmers and municipalities, which creates a stable group of operators for the new facilities. This initiative not only switches energy supply to renewable resources, but also leave a significant ecological footprint.
