Klopp takes action: RB Leipzig courts Fabregas as their new coach!
After Marco Rose was fired in March, RB Leipzig is urgently looking for a new coach. Sports managing director Marcel Schäfer has taken on responsibility for this important position. Jürgen Klopp, who has been in charge of global football at Red Bull since January 1, also took an active role in the search for a coach. In particular, Klopp is interested in Cesc Fabregas, whose contract currently runs at Como 1907.
In order to convince Fabregas of a commitment to the Bundesliga, Klopp met personally with the coaching candidate. Internally, Fabregas is seen as the key to a fresh start after a disappointing season. However, the meeting between Klopp and Fabregas leaves questions, as signing the Spaniard will result in high transfer fees. Bayer Leverkusen had also expressed interest in Fabregas, but have since decided on Erik ten Hag as their new coach and signaled that the 36-year-old is not available.
Evidence of a change
The coaching search will take place before the start of training on July 14th, while the club is currently on a PR tour in Brazil. Interim coach Zsolt Löw spoke positively about Klopp's persuasiveness and energy. However, Fabregas has a big decision to make as he is in contract negotiations with Como regarding an extension and a possible release clause. He has made it clear that Como remains his first port of call but is keeping his options open.
Alternative candidates for the coaching position at RB Leipzig are Oliver Glasner from Crystal Palace and Thomas Frank. Glasner is under contract until 2026 and could prove to be a more expensive candidate than Fabregas. However, the situation currently remains tense as there have not yet been any discussions with Glasner. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether Leipzig can land a new coach who will further advance the club's ambitions.
