Future of the Bedřichov ski resort in danger: buyer wanted!

SHORTER SKIING FUN IN THE ISELGE MOUNTAINS! The future of the famous ski resort in the Czech municipality of Bedřichov (Friedrichswald) is in the balance! The operator “Ski Bižu” wants to sell the area with 4.5 kilometers of slopes because the operation has been unprofitable for years. Petr Bažant from Ski Bižu is accelerating the discussion about the fate of the ski resort, which has recently been open with restrictions. The reasons? A difficult collaboration with the municipality, the refusal of investments and the incessant climate change that threatens snow reliability!

The economic pressure is enormous! Bažant explains: "We wanted to build a modern six-seater cable car, but this was impossible due to complicated ownership arrangements and regulatory hurdles. In addition, parking spaces and declining overnight capacity have made life difficult for us in recent years!"After only 30 days of skiing last winter, patience is at an end!The operational loss is so high that the bitter words were spoken: “We don’t want to continue.” Two of the most strategically important properties have already been sold - the Prague company Niseko has won the contract, but what then?

A club is fighting for ski operations

The pressure is growing, and a new association has been founded to pool the last hopes of preserving ski operations in Bedřichov. The club's chairman, Michal Plíšek, sums it up: “The community has done nothing for 30 years!”Now that the water is up to our necks, the search for solutions is underway.Mayor Petr Holub confirmed that discussions are ongoing with investors and entrepreneurs to secure the necessary financial resources. But the question remains:Will the community be able to save the slopes?

Time is running out! Holub expects an analysis to deliver results by mid-November. Meanwhile, the situation in other ski resorts such as Liberec looks similarly threatening. Will the ski areas in the region soon be fighting for their survival? We can only hope that winter sports fans don't have to lose the last traces of their beloved slopes in Bedřichov soon!
