The world celebrated the turn of the year 2025 with a spectacular play of colors! Australia was one of the first nations to welcome in the New Year with an impressive fireworks display in Sydney at 2pm CET. Nine tonnes of fireworks were launched from the famous Harbor Bridge as thousands of people gathered at the harbor. New Zealand and the island states of Samoa and Tonga also followed suit just an hour later with colorful light spectacles. In Germany, tens of thousands gathered in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to light up the night sky with a grandiose New Year's Eve party and fireworks. Police reported at least five deaths and numerous injuries due to incidents during the celebrations, but this did not affect the security situation as New Year's Eve celebrations in Vienna went off without a hitch and over 800,000 people streamed through the city, like ZDF recorded.

The turn of the year was most spectacular in cities like London, where around 100,000 people experienced the world-famous countdown to the fireworks at the London Eye. Meanwhile, there were weather-related restrictions in other parts of Europe, such as in Sylt, where celebrations were canceled due to stormy weather. Nevertheless, the hardships did not stop many countries from passionately celebrating the New Year and looking to the skies, with the world's first celebrations already taking place on the South Sea atoll of Kiritimati, which started the year 2025 13 hours ahead of Germany. The excitement left by the globally synchronized celebration remains unparalleled as people around the world come together to share these special moments.
