Christmas market Halle: splendor, enjoyment and new safety concepts!

The Christmas market in Halle (Saale) opens its doors from November 26th to December 23rd, 2024 and promises a spectacular experience! With daily visitor numbers of between 4,000 and 6,000, this event is celebrated as one of the city's cultural highlights. The official opening will take place on November 26th at 4 p.m., accompanied by festive sounds from the city singing choir and the opera house choir. A 13 meter high Christmas tree will decorate the market, which will be erected next week from a front garden in the Rosengarten Estate.

This year the Christmas market will be designed with particular attention to accessibility. Six truss gates enable easy supply of electricity, water and sewage, making cable sleepers that hinder wheelchair users a thing of the past. In addition, a strip will be kept clear for pedestrians behind the stops to make it easier to cross the market square. The music will also be royalty-free this year, which will drastically reduce the costs - from 13,000 euros to just 3,000 euros! Classics like “Oh Tannenbaum” and “Jingle Bells” will underline the festive mood, while well-known hits like “Last Christmas” will remain banned.

Important changes and new features

The security precautions have also been improved: concrete blocks and more security personnel ensure a safe atmosphere, but without disturbing the Christmas atmosphere. The city's goal is to increase revenue from stand fees without increasing fees to cover costs. In addition to the large Christmas market, there are also smaller markets such as the Hüttenzauber at Domplatz and the Winter Magic at Hallmarkt, which are now an integral part of the festival.

An unexpected move of the Ferris wheel is also necessary because a canal on Hallorenring needs to be renovated. The Ferris wheel will now be at the other end of the Hallmarkt, in front of the Edeka. New this year is the “Winter Swing”, which will provide additional attractions. Torsten Erlen, operator of Winterzauber, hopes that the city will emphasize the use of parking garages more to make access easier for visitors.
