This year the Altenburger Kantorei is celebrating the 215th birthday of one of the most important Romantic composers: Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. In honor of this master, a very special concert will be held in the Altenburg Brothers Church. The program includes outstanding works, including the 42nd Psalm “Wie der Hirsch screams” and the symphony cantata “Lobgesang”. These pieces are among the masterpieces of romantic choral symphony and promise musical delight.

The premiere features powerful choirs, which are combined with delicate woodwind sounds and melodic string passages. The different musical elements come together in an impressive finale that will captivate the audience. On October 26, 2024 at 5 p.m. anyone interested can experience the performance in the Altenburger Brüderkirche. The Altenburger Kantorei is accompanied by the Reußisches Kammerorchester, under the direction of the renowned cantor Johann Friedrich Röpke, who is known for his passionate performances.

Cast and tickets

The concert performance will also be accompanied by excellent soloists. Also taking part are the soprano Julia Gromball, who has often impressed in Altenburg, as well as her Weimar colleague Friederike Beykirch and the talented tenor Oliver Kaden from Leipzig. Her singing will further enrich the concert and underline the emotional highlights of the works.

For everyone who would like to take part in this musical experience, the ticket prices are as follows: 20 euros regular, reduced 17 euros. For the second category, tickets are available at 15 euros, reduced prices at 12 euros. Students can even purchase their tickets for just 5 euros. Tickets can be purchased at the Altenburger Land tourist information office at Markt 10 in Altenburg, in the Weltladen at the Brüderkirche and directly from members of the Altenburger Kantorei. There will also be remaining tickets available at the box office if spontaneous participation is possible.

The concert promises to be an experience not only musically but also emotionally that will take listeners on an unforgettable journey through the works of Mendelssohn Bartholdy. The impressive combination of classical music with the passion of the performers will surely touch many hearts.
