Seidemann: We finally have to take advantage of our opportunities!
Jena. After the disappointing 0-2 loss against the Hertha BSC reserves, Kay Seidemann, FC Carl Zeiss Jena player, drew his honest conclusion about the encounter and addressed some critical points.
Speaking after the game, the attacking midfielder, who came on at half-time for Justin Schau, explained that inefficiency in finishing was the main reason for the defeat. “We weren’t effective in front of the goal, that’s what differentiated us from Hertha,” said Seidemann. While the Berliners scored two goals from two opportunities, Jena failed to deal with the multitude of chances and was unable to score a goal.
Dissatisfaction with the evaluation of opportunities
When asked about how the game went, Seidemann responded directly: "We had more opportunities to score a goal, but we didn't score. I can't say how much longer we would have played to finally put the ball in the net." He emphasized that the team was not confident in front of goal, which led to a number of missed opportunities.
His personal review of a promising situation in the penalty area was particularly critical. Seidemann explained that he decided to give the ball away instead of shooting himself. “Of course I have to put the ball in, I was only eleven meters from the goal,” he explained, admitting that he should have acted with more confidence.
The clay court also presented a challenge for the players and may have contributed to uncertainty in the way they played. However, Seidemann clearly pointed out: "I'm not looking for excuses, in the end I have to shoot myself."
The second half brought more fighting spirit from the Jena players compared to the first. Seidemann praised the team's commitment: "We fought well, even though Hertha relied on two counterattacks and struck quickly. Nevertheless, we had enough chances to turn the result around."
The team's next steps
With a view to the upcoming game against Zwickau, Seidemann expressed optimism. “We will analyze the game, train hard and try to make better use of the opportunity given.” He hopes that the team learns from their mistakes and then leaves the pitch as winners.
The fans of FC Carl Zeiss Jena are eagerly awaiting the upcoming games, where this chance evaluation could be crucial. Seidemann has made it clear that the club is on the right track, but the goals count in order to remain competitive in the competition.
