Tennis legend Till Reschke dies at the age of 91 – a life for sport!
Göttingen.A great loss for the tennis world: Till Reschke died on October 30th at the age of 91. The passionate tennis player and committed official dedicated his life to sport and leaves behind an impressive legacy. Born in Berlin and raised in Greifswald, after escaping during the Second World War he found his way to the Sauerland, where he initially fell in love with athletics.
But the chemistry courses and the intensive training in athletics were no longer compatible. After his wedding in 1959, he and his wife looked for a sport to do together and discovered the tennis facilities at Schillerwiese. A new era began here for Reschke, which would accompany him until his last day.
Commitment to tennis
Reschke has been a proud member of the Göttingen Tennis and Ski Club (TSC) since 1968 and played in various age group teams until January 2017. He experienced his sporting heyday between 1987 and 1993 in the regional and northern league for seniors. But his commitment went far beyond the field. From 1973 he took on numerous positions in the club, became a youth officer and was significantly involved in the founding of the NTV Göttingen district in 1975. In 1990 he took over the chairmanship and modernized the competition regulations of the Lower Saxony Tennis Association, which still apply today.
His services were recognized in 1993 when he was elected spokesman for the NTV gaming committee, a position he held until 2015. Reschke was also chairman of the Association of Southern Districts and remained active as deputy chairman until 2020. Until his retirement, he enjoyed the tennis from the club terrace and leaves a gap that will be difficult to fill.
