Ski jumping fever: World Cup in Wisla – ÖSV eagles give hope of victory!
The Ski Jumping World Cup kicks off in Wisla, Poland, with an exciting men's individual competition taking place on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. The competition marks the World Cup's first visit to Poland this season. The Austrian ski jumpers, who have performed well in previous competitions, give reason for hope. Important players this season are the four Austrians who are in the top six of the overall World Cup, prominently represented by German leader Pius Paschke and last year's winner Ryoyu Kobayashi, who won the last event in Wisla Laola1 reported.
The current season is determined by strict hygiene measures as the corona pandemic remains a challenge. A rigorous concept applies during the jumps: masks are required almost everywhere and cheering together is prohibited. However, Horst Hüttel, team manager of the German ski jumpers, emphasizes that the hygiene concepts were successfully implemented in previous events. Spectators will also be an issue at future competitions, such as the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf with 2,500 fans expected. The rule changes also include an adjustment to ski jumping shoe wedges to prevent injuries. According to Hüttel, this is a step in the right direction, although the long-term effects remain to be seen Deutschlandfunk reported.
Comeback and intense competition
For Severin Freund and Andreas Wellinger, the World Cup in Wisla is an important comeback after a long injury break. Hüttel is optimistic about her achievements, but at the same time has to take into account the strong competition within her own team and from other nations. In an intensive selection process, seven jumpers were selected from a pool of ten to twelve athletes for the competition. This high dynamic in the team and the integration of young talents ensure an exciting competition, which will be important for both Austria and Germany this season.
