Olof-Palme Peace Prize: Now submit suggestions for peace!

Reinbek. The Olof-Palme Peace Prize, an award for outstanding Engagement for peace and social compensation, February 28th, February 2025, awarded for the 36th time in Reinbek Castle. With prize money of 200 euros, this honor is awarded to people or organizations who are particularly committed to peaceful coexistence.

The SPD Stormarn calls in cooperation with the Walter-Jacobsen Society to submit suggestions for nomination. Everyone from the Stormarn circles, Duchy of Lauenburg, Segeberg and Ostholstein can make suggestions. The aim is to honor people or clubs who are exemplary for peace and compensation.

Use for peaceful cooperation

The prize was first awarded in 1987 and is reminiscent of the former Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme, who was murdered in 1986. It stands for the commitment to international communication, world peace and equality. This year there is an exciting innovation: In addition to Stormarn, people and clubs can now also be nominated from the adjacent circles.

"For democracy, together and freedom you have to occur", emphasize the SPD district chairman Marion Meyer and René Wendland. "Especially in regions where these values are threatened, the commitment of many people is of great importance." The Peace Prize is intended to honor this effort and keep the memory of Olof Palme who advocated peace and democracy.

jury from seven members

A seven-member jury, chaired by Birgit Kassovic, will select the winners from the proposals received. Over 250 groups and people have been nominated in recent years. Suggestions can be sent to the SPD district office in Bad Oldesloe by Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Further information can be found on the SPD Stormarn website.
