Bad Oldesloe: Vocational school becomes the second Yad Vashem School in SH!

A moving moment in Bad Oldesloe! The vocational school of the Stormarn district was appointed Yad Vashem School on Friday, November 8, 2024, by the renowned Israeli Memorial Yad Vashem. This honor is not just a title, but an award for the school's commitment in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. Yad Vashem, the state memorial for the Holocaust and heroism, honors the outstanding efforts of the teachers and students who have been actively participating in the #Stolenmemory project for years.

As part of this project, the pupils look for descendants of Holocaust victims and hand over personal objects that once belonged to the victims. An emotional climax was the return of memorabilia to Michael Springer from Poznan, whose great -grandfather was murdered in the Neuengamme concentration camp. These touching gestures are part of the deep responsibility that the school has taken over to keep the memories of the persecuted. With this award, the vocational school in Bad Oldesloe is now the second Yad Vashem School in Schleswig-Holstein, after the Stormarnschule in Ahrensburg.

a sign of commemoration

The award is not only recognition, but also a strong sign of commemoration and education. The school's students and teachers show that remembering of the past is of the greatest importance in order not to forget the teachings from history. At a time when the awareness of the horrors of the Holocaust is becoming increasingly important, the school sets a strong sign of tolerance and humanity.
