Bad Oldesloe: Vocational school becomes the second Yad Vashem school in SH!
A moving moment in Bad Oldesloe! The Stormarn district vocational school was named a Yad Vashem school by the renowned Israeli memorial Yad Vashem on Friday, November 8, 2024. This honor is not just a title, but an award for the school's commitment to remembering the victims of the Holocaust. Yad Vashem, the state memorial for the Holocaust and heroism, recognizes the outstanding efforts of the teachers and students who have been actively involved in the #stolenmemory project for years.
As part of this project, students search for descendants of Holocaust victims and give them personal items that once belonged to the victims. An emotional highlight was the return of memorabilia to Michael Springer from Posen, whose great-grandfather was murdered in the Neuengamme concentration camp. These touching gestures are part of the deep responsibility the school has taken on to keep the memories of those persecuted alive. With this award, the vocational school in Bad Oldesloe is now the second Yad Vashem school in Schleswig-Holstein, after the Stormarnschule in Ahrensburg.
A symbol of remembrance
The award is not only recognition, but also a strong sign of remembrance and education. The school's students and teachers show that remembering the past is of utmost importance in order not to forget the lessons of history. At a time when awareness of the horrors of the Holocaust is becoming increasingly important, the school sets a strong example of tolerance and humanity.
