Unemployment in the Duchy of Lauenburg: decline in October!

Duchy of Lauenburg (pm). Unemployment in the Duchy of Lauenburg showed a positive development in October: the number of unemployed people fell by 86, reducing the total number to 5,758 people. This means the unemployment rate falls to 5.2 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points compared to September. But the numbers aren't quite as rosy when you look at the same month last year: 5,542 people were unemployed in October 2022, meaning the current situation still remains worrying.

However, the Bad Oldesloe Employment Agency, represented by Kathleen Wieczorek, warns against premature euphoria. "The number of unemployed has not fallen as much as in September. We see a decline of 101, particularly among young job seekers under the age of 25. However, unemployment remains at a high level year-on-year, and the economic situation is making itself felt on the labor market," explains Wieczorek. The number of vacant positions has decreased slightly, but over 1,500 positions are still unfilled.

New opportunities for women

In the wake of the ongoing shortage of skilled workers, the agency is calling for a nationwide week of action to support women who want to return to work after a family break. The “Women’s Opportunities Re-Entry” will take place from November 18th to 22nd. “Women returning to work often bring valuable experience with them and are in great demand in companies,” emphasizes Wieczorek. The campaign week offers free online workshops and lectures on topics such as job applications and professional reorientation.

In addition, 233 new jobs subject to social security contributions were reported in October, an increase of 53 compared to the previous month. There are 1,561 positions available in total, although this represents an increase of 46 positions compared to last year. "The need for personnel remains high despite a slight decline in job offers. There are many new job opportunities, particularly in wholesale and retail as well as in health and social services," says Wieczorek.
