Freiberg shines: The Christmas market delights with new attractions!
Freiberg.The countdown is running! From November 26th to December 22nd, the festively decorated old town of Freiberg will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland! The 33rd Freiberg Christmas Market, one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany, promises an unforgettable experience full of tradition and new attractions. Mayor Sven Krüger emphasizes:“We cultivate our traditions particularly intensively with our Christmas market, but we also always come up with new things.”A highlight will be the Stollen Festival, where the Freiberg giant Stollen will be ceremonially cut on the 1st of Advent!
A total of 86 lovingly decorated huts invite visitors to discover the Erzgebirge wood art and regional specialties. The varied stage and family program ensures entertainment for young and old. Special theme days such as Family Day, the Christmas Party and Seniors' Day offer additional activities that make the visit a special experience. And that's not all: a lively Advent calendar and the “Maker Advent” in the city and mining museum bring a breath of fresh air into the festive days.
Important dates and attractions
The opening of the Christmas market is celebrated with a fairytale procession from Freudenstein Castle to the Obermarkt, where children ring in the market with Santa Claus and the Silver City Queen. The Stollen Festival takes place on December 1st, at which the giant Stollen is cut by Mayor Sven Krüger and Silver City Queen Laura. The proceeds go to Kinderarche Sachsen e.V. On December 15th, the miner's festival is celebrated with a small mountain climb and the new trade for 2025 is presented.
There are also special daily activities, such as a visit from Santa Claus and the opportunity for children to make Christmas presents in the “Little Mining Workshop”. The Freiberg valuable coins, the “Freiberger Silbertaler”, are a great gift for all Christmas market fans and can be redeemed at all traders in the market.
