FCK inspires 45,000 fans: comeback against Magdeburg in the power play!
The 45,104 fans in the Fritz Walter Stadium experienced a spectacle in a class of its own when the Red Devils played against 1. FC Magdeburg. On a Sunday lunchtime in November, the FCK players showed an impressive power play that brought back memories of the glorious 90s. But the hoped-for stoppage time explosion failed to materialize after Lautrer were 2-0 down after a quarter of an hour. But the sending off of Magdeburg's Falko Michel brought the turning point: FCK literally stormed and scored two goals, while the crossbar and the post caused excitement four times. With a preponderance of 11 to 1 in corner kicks and 22 to 8 shots on goal, the FCK dominated the game and the spectators could no longer be held back!
Before kick-off there was an emotional farewell for Philipp Hercher, who was honored by his old club after moving to Magdeburg. A jersey and a thank you banner from the fans gave us goosebumps. Fritz Walter's 104th birthday was also celebrated with a banner that was displayed throughout the game. The FCK fans sang the “Palzlied” and showed an impressive unity in the stands. Otto Roth, a pioneer of fan work, was also honored with a banner during the first half. After the game there was applause from the west curve for the exhausted players.
Magdeburg's fans disappoint
The Magdeburg supporters, on the other hand, could not keep up with the atmosphere of the Lautrer fans. Only 1,800 fans made the trip to Kaiserslautern, which only filled a third of the guest block. The Sunday date was cited as the reason, but even last season the block was only half full. Visually, the Magdeburgers left little impression, and the lack of swinging flags didn't make the situation any better. Acoustically, “Block U” was able to attract attention a few times, but the small number of fans weakened the chants as they were divided into two halves.
The game was a celebration for the FCK fans, who cheered for their team and celebrated the players after the final whistle. An unforgettable afternoon in the Kaiserslautern stadium that made the fans' hearts beat faster!
