Prices at the pump are rising: refueling will be more expensive in 2025!

Prices at the pumps are rising again - drivers in Austria have to prepare for more expensive tank fills. In January 2025, the average price of premium gasoline was 1.571 euros, an increase of 6.3 cents compared to December 2024. Diesel also became more expensive, to 1.609 euros, which also corresponds to an increase of 6.2 cents. These price increases exceed the increase caused by carbon pricing at the turn of the year. Loud ÖAMTC The rise in oil prices was the main factor that caused pump prices to rise to record highs of 1,619 euros for super and 1,659 euros for diesel in mid-January.

The additional burden on drivers will continue to increase from January 1, 2025, as CO2 pricing will be increased again. The price per ton of CO2 rises to 55 euros, making gasoline more expensive by around 2 cents and diesel by around 3 cents. These new regulations, which are... ARBO announced, also entail an adjustment of tax rates and CO2 limits, so that vehicles with high CO2 emissions in particular will be more heavily burdened. This is happening as part of a broader tax reform that affects not only fuel prices, but also the standard consumption tax and the calculation of benefits in kind for company cars.

In addition, drivers should be particularly careful at motorway gas stations as the prices there are exorbitantly high. In mid-January, the maximum prices at these stations rose to 2,129 euros and have remained at this high level since then. A price comparison is particularly worthwhile for travelers from eastern to western Austria, as fuel prices vary depending on the federal state. For holidaymakers who plan to travel to countries like Germany or Italy, it could be advantageous to fill up in Austria before crossing the border, where prices are currently cheaper than in neighboring countries.
