Fusion of the savings banks: A new hope for the Sauerland!

In the Hochsauerlandkreis, there is a significant change: the Sparkassen Arnsberg-Sundern, Hochsauerland and in the middle of the Sauerland will be merged on January 1, 2025. This decision was made by all crucial bodies, including the district council and the local councils, and is an important step in the development of the regional bank. The united institution will operate under the name "Sparkasse in the middle of the Sauerland".

District Administrator Dr. Karl Schneider, who is also the chairman of the Hochsauerland board of directors, describes this approval as pioneering. "This merger lays a strong foundation in order to act as a powerful partner in economically challenging times and to support the economic development in the region," explains Dr. Schneider. In addition, the new Sparkasse promises to generate more investments for sustainable growth and thus set important impulses for the region.

Receive the decentralized structure

The merger also has an impact on the structure of the credit institution. The decisive factor is that all previous locations will be preserved, which means that the Sparkasse in the middle of the Sauerland will continue to be decentralized and will be present in various cities. Jochem Hunecke, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sparkasse Arnsberg-Sundern, sees this development a chance to specialize and expand the business areas, while at the same time the principle of customer proximity is maintained with short decision-making channels.

Achim Henkel, Mayor of Finnentrop and current chairman of the new Sparkasse, emphasizes that the previous contacts are retained for customers. "The familiarity and proximity are the foundation of our customer relationships. We will continue to support local associations and institutions, both through donations and through sponsorship measures," said Henkel.

The merger also brings new opportunities for the employees. "The changes open new career opportunities and contribute to further training, and in an environment that is future -oriented and family -friendly," emphasizes Dr. Schneider. He emphasizes that the concerns of the employees were integrated into the merger plans right from the start. In order to reduce the pendulum times, flexible job opportunities, both on site and in the home office, are to be created.

The merger results in the creation of a single savings bank in the entire business area of the Hochsauerlandkreis and the municipality of Finnentrop, which supports around 140,000 customers with a balance sheet volume of around 4.9 billion euros.

This development could be pioneering for the future structure and performance of financial services in the region. The Sparkasse in the middle of the Sauerland promises not only to increase its own competitiveness through this merger, but also to make a significant contribution to the stability and growth of the local economy.
