Hamm starts international initiative: New coordination office 2025!
A significant step is being taken in Hamm to promote international relations: From March 2025, a new position will be set up within the city administration to take care of town twinning and development cooperation. This was announced by Mayor Marc Herter after several local initiatives presented the city's impressive international contacts under the motto "Hamm International". Christian Fecke, Regina Schumacher-Goldner and Wolfgang Rommelt reported on over 40 international initiatives from Hamm that maintain connections around the world, including partnerships in countries such as the USA, Mexico and Turkey calf reported.
The need for a central coordination point was emphasized by those responsible for the initiative in order to bundle the various international activities and initiatives. This office should not only function as an advisory center, but also increase the visibility of international projects. Representatives of local initiatives have already worked together three times to exchange their experiences and information. It was found that many activists in neighboring countries are often not informed about the parallel activities of their fellow citizens. The success of this initiative is also evident in other countries: in Latvia, for example, since 2011, over 2,113 initiatives have been submitted, of which 50 have been implemented, and 70% of the electorate have visited the relevant platforms, as reported by the Bertelsmann Foundation is reported.
The new developments in Hamm could further strengthen the city's international cooperation in the long term and take on a pioneering role for other municipalities. The exchange between different initiatives should also be promoted, so that not only the individual projects but also the entire city could benefit from this internationalization.
