Drama on the highway! On Tuesday morning, October 22, 2024, around 8:30 a.m., a serious traffic accident occurred on Autobahn 1 near Bakum. A 61-year-old driver from the Ennepe-Ruhr district had to lose control of his vehicle due to a medical emergency. He first slipped into the construction site area and collided with an anti-skid wall - a shocking impact!
But that wasn't enough: the Ford, which was significantly damaged in the impact, continued on its way! The driver wanted to overtake a tractor-trailer driven by a 49-year-old from Münsterland, which ended in another collision. Tragic! The car ended up stranded in the right lane, completely unroadworthy and with immense material damage amounting to around 20,000 euros. Emergency doctors were quickly on the scene and cared for the injured driver, who was immediately taken to hospital with a suspected stroke.
Traffic chaos on the highway
The accident caused traffic chaos of the highest order - a five-kilometer-long traffic jam formed that extended to the Vechta junction. Only after the vehicle was recovered and the partial closure was lifted was traffic slowly calmed down again. Another example of how there are not only high speeds on the highways, but also unexpected dangers!
