Advent craft market: A weekend full of magical lights!

With the coming start of Advent, the Duisburg region is once again expecting a very special highlight: the Schauinsland-reisen light market. This event has become a popular tradition since it was first held at the power center and is expected to attract numerous visitors again this year. Last year there were almost 30,000 guests who looked forward to a chic weekend with hand-made works of art and culinary delicacies.

The market takes place in a historical ambience, which provides the perfect backdrop for over 120 exhibitors. Here, guests can not only admire the creative results made from wood, felt, fabric, jewelry, ceramics and porcelain, but also have a direct conversation with the artisans. Many stands allow a look behind the scenes, so you can experience live how the numerous unique pieces are created.

A feast for the senses

In addition to the impressive crafts, the light market also surprises with a diverse culinary offering. If you like traditional delights, you can taste classics such as mulled wine, roasted almonds and sometimes even hearty currywurst. For those who value vegetarian or vegan options, options such as veggie burritos and vegan burgers are on the menu, complemented by winter specialties such as kale.

The Advent café offers a special experience and invites you to linger. Here, visitors can expect a selection of Italian coffee specialties, while festive brass sounds from the famous “Gabrieli Quartet” create the right atmosphere.

A highlight is the planned world record attempt, which is scheduled to take place in the casting hall on Friday, November 29, 2024. This is one of several interesting activities that diversify the market. In addition, the existing program will be enriched by a puppet theater, which is particularly aimed at families and will be performed throughout the weekend in the “Metropole Ruhr” room.

Details about ticket sales and event days

The light market opens its doors on different days with the following opening times:

• Freitag, 29. November 2024: 13 Uhr bis 22 Uhr (offizielle Eröffnung um 17 Uhr)
• Samstag, 30. November 2024: 13 Uhr bis 22 Uhr
• Sonntag, 1. Dezember 2024: 11 Uhr bis 19 Uhr

Tickets are available from Monday, October 21, 2024. Adults pay €6.50, while children up to 12 years get in free. Tickets are sold online at www.lichtermarkt.ruhr as well as in the Duisburg tourist information office. It is important to note that a ticket is required for the entire event area, i.e. for the outdoor area as well as the blowing and casting hall.

Arrival and parking options are also offered on the lights market website so that interested visitors are well informed. The Schauinsland-reisen light market in the Duisburg-Nord landscape park once again promises an atmospheric introduction to the Advent season, rich in handicrafts and festive delicacies.
