Eat.Christmas is just around the corner and food is turning into a festive wonderland! The city offers a variety of Christmas markets that not only make the city center but also the districts shine. Here are the key highlights you shouldn't miss!
The largest Christmas market traditionally takes place in downtown Essen! From November 15th to December 23rd, 170 festively decorated huts will pamper visitors with gift ideas and culinary delicacies. Opening hours are Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m. A special highlight is the Sunday shopping on December 15th, which further enlivens the city center. At Kennedyplatz, guests can look forward to an impressive Christmas pyramid presented by showman Richard Müller - a real eye-catcher!
Variety of Christmas markets
The Steeler Christmas market on Kaiser-Otto-Platz attracts visitors with a colorful offering from November 2nd to January 5th, 2025. Here, 73 clubs and organizations present their products, while stars such as Olaf Henning and Achim Petry appear on stage. And that's not all: the Rüttenscheid winter market opens its doors on December 12th and offers a large festival tent with gastronomic delicacies until December 22nd.
There are numerous events for families, such as the Haarzopfer Christmas market on December 8th, which delights with festive music and activities for children. The Advent market in Altenessen, which takes place from November 15th to December 28th, also promises a pre-Christmas atmosphere with a 14 meter high mulled wine pyramid and a photo heart made of fir green. You can also visit the St. Nicholas markets that take place at various locations in Essen, including the St. Nicholas market in the Schlosshotel Hugenpoet and the Schönebecker St. Nicholas Day.
