Speed camera protest in Essen: parasol covers camera!
Eat.A bizarre protest caused a stir in Essen-Frohnhausen on Saturday: a parasol covered the camera of a speed camera! The police arrived, but the excitement was quickly over.
On November 9th, Kerckhoffstrasse was transformed into an unusual scene. A black, red and gold parasol stuck in a Langnese bucket caused confusion. A handwritten sign pointing out the city's strained financial situation accompanied the event. Next to it was a garden chair with another sign addressed to the “victims” of the speed camera – a creative but risky expression of the citizens’ discontent!
Police respond to the protest
The Essen police didn't take long to arrive at the scene. Although she did not find any criminal offenses, covering a speed camera is legally a serious offense. However, the parasol was already gone when the officers arrived. Even if the action was intended to be satirical, the legislator does not see it with humor. A clear sign that protests of this kind cannot remain without consequences!
