Stuttgart jewel Olivier remains: future secured at VfB!
The young Austrian player Christopher Olivier, now 19 years old, has rejected SK Rapid. Olivier, who has been playing for VfB Stuttgart since 2022, is considered a promising talent and was recently part of the professional squad for the UEFA Champions League. During his time at Stuttgart he also gained experience with the second team in the 3rd league and the U19. There was speculation about a possible loan to second division club Holstein Kiel and SK Rapid, but a conversation with coach Sebastian Hoeneß convinced the talented player to stay at VfB and start preparations with the professionals. This means he remains with the DFB Cup winners VfB Stuttgart.
Stuttgart recently enjoyed an impressive win in the DFB Cup final where they beat Arminia Bielefeld 4-2. This success marked the club's first title win in 18 years. Under the direction of Sebastian Hoeneß, the current coach, Stuttgart led 3-0 after just 28 minutes in the Olympic Stadium, where the final took place.
The DFB Cup at a glance
The DFB Cup, which was launched in 1935, is the second most important title in German club football and is played in a knockout system. The current season (2024/25) marked the 82nd edition of the competition and VfB Stuttgart was able to celebrate its fourth cup triumph with this victory. Historically, FC Bayern Munich is the record winner with a total of 20 titles.
In order to take part in the DFB Cup, the teams have to fight their way through various qualifying rounds, which also gives smaller clubs the chance to compete against higher-class teams. Every year 64 participants take part in the first main round, with the pairings being drawn publicly. Furthermore, over 4,000 teams have fought for the title since it was first held in 1935, making the cup a platform for surprises.
Christopher Olivier and VfB Stuttgart are not only looking forward to a promising season, but also to the exciting task of celebrating further successes in the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup.
