Maintal pulls the ripcord: City plans to demolish fiber optics!

Maintal is on the verge of a decisive turning point in fiber optic expansion! The city has had enough of the sluggish work of Deutsche Fiberglass and is now seriously considering ending the cooperation. Mayor Monika Böttcher (independent) left no doubt at the most recent citizens' meeting: "It's enough." The original plan to install high-speed internet in the Hochstadt and Wachenbuchen districts failed. Despite initial enthusiasm and the acquisition of customers, implementation fell far short of expectations.

Since 2021, Deutsche Glasfaser has promised a lot, but the reality is different. Where roads were once torn up, there is now a standstill. The promised construction schedules have not arrived and the quality of the subcontractors' work leaves much to be desired. This not only led to a months-long construction halt, but also to a legal dispute with the city! The city administration's patience is now running out and citizens are frustrated by the lack of progress.

The city of Maintal is looking for new solutions

The city is now seriously considering an alternative to German fiber optics and is seeking discussions with Broadband Main-Kinzig, which has successfully laid fiber optic cables in other municipalities. “It is a very unfortunate development,” said Böttcher, who sharply criticized the provider’s unreliability. While Telekom is making progress in Dörnigheim and Bischofsheim, Maintal remains stuck in the digital Stone Age.

The city council, at the initiative of the CDU, decided in December 2023 to end the cooperation if the expansion was not started by March 31st. But so far there is no plan B and this cannot continue! Deutsche optical fiber is unimpressed by the threatened termination and assures that discussions about the expansion are continuing. But time is running out and the citizens of Maintal are urgently waiting for a solution to their internet problems!
