New contact point in Magdeburg: Help for 500,000 uninsured people!

A new chapter is opening in Magdeburg for people without health insurance! With fresh, white walls and state-of-the-art equipment, including a new dental chair and an ultrasound machine, the drop-in center opens its doors to those in need. This initiative, financed by donations from the “Doctors of the World” association and generous donations in kind from doctors, offers volunteer doctors the opportunity to help in practices or hospitals alongside their regular jobs.

In Germany, where health insurance is mandatory, a shocking 500,000 to a million people live without insurance! Many of them are former privately insured people who fell into debt due to financial difficulties. Christian Stegmüller, who is responsible for the domestic projects of “Doctors of the World”, explains that migrants, homeless people and other vulnerable groups are also affected. These people often face enormous challenges after losing their health insurance through job loss or other life circumstances.

Volunteers urgently needed!

Dentists at the Bahnhofsmission have been offering free help to the homeless for three years. Dr. Nicole Primar, one of the committed dentists, says: “I would like to give something back to society.” Your commitment shows how important it is to support people in need. But the contact point on Einsteinstrasse urgently needs more helpers! In addition to general medical and dental treatments, pediatric and gynecological consultations as well as psychological support will also be offered.

The aim of the initiative is clear: people without health insurance should be reintegrated into the system. Social workers are available to support those affected on the way back to insurance and to find solutions to their contribution debts. But first the offer must be made known so that the help reaches the people who urgently need it. The first steps have already been taken and the doctors and social workers are ready to offer their valuable support!
