Courageous return after a serious fall: Circus star fights to heal

A shocking moment in Circus Krone! During a performance in Burghausen on September 21st, the talented artist Amalia Avanesian fell from a height of six meters and suffered life-threatening injuries. The audience was stunned when the 29-year-old landed on her head after slipping off the floating ribbons during a trick. Immediate first aid from doctors present in the audience and the rapid deployment of the “Christoph 14” rescue helicopter saved her life.

The Traunstein Clinic took on the dramatic situation and put together a highly qualified interdisciplinary team. Amalia was immediately placed in an induced coma, while doctors carried out thorough examinations and discovered severe head and pelvic injuries. Emergency surgery was essential and the prognosis was anything but rosy. “At the beginning, the prognosis for Ms. Avanesian was extremely critical,” reported Prof. Dr. Kolja Gelse, head of trauma surgery.

A comeback in sight?

After days of rest with medication, the turning point came: Amalia woke up from her coma! The progress made the doctors and relatives test their joy. “She really had enormous willpower,” emphasized neurosurgeon Dr. Jens Rachinger, while Amalia was busy learning vocabulary again. After operations to stabilize her injuries, she was even able to walk again without any aids.

Her partner, Yefgen Abakumov, was always at her side and supported her throughout her stay in the hospital. But the recovery is not yet complete: Amalia will now have to visit a rehabilitation clinic before she can return to her beloved training.
