Lusatian students take off: scholarship program for medical talent!

Lausitz – An exciting new chapter for young medical talent has begun! Nine students and one student from secondary school have applied for the brand new scholarship program of the HealthCampus Lausitz. At the beginning of November they visited the Cottbus University Hospital to experience the start of their promising journey into the world of medicine. With the aim of achieving an outstanding high school diploma and then studying medicine, the young talents are supported by a tailor-made coaching program that helps them develop learning strategies and master stressful situations.

The Lausitz HealthCampus has launched a scholarship program that not only offers financial support, but also specifically improves high school diploma grades and prepares students for the medical test. Studies show that regional origin has a decisive influence on career choice. The program therefore aims to increase the chances of getting a place at university and to strengthen ties to Lusatia. The students, who are currently attending high schools in the region, were invited to the Lausitz – Carl Thiem Medical School, where they were taught by Andreas Mogwitz and Prof. Dr. Adelheid Kuhlmey was welcomed. A highlight was the tour of Europe's most modern emergency room.

Targeted support for young doctors

The participants see the funding offer from the GesundheitCampus Lausitz association as a “really good opportunity”. Helene from Cottbus and Tamino, who is about to graduate from high school, are enthusiastic about the opportunities the program offers. Andrea Ferber from Johanniter Accident Aid and coach Matthias Voigt promise tailor-made support offers to improve your Abitur grades and pass the medical test. The company “med2university” offers valuable support, and the best thing about it: the program is free of charge for the scholarship holders.

The Spree-Neiße district has supported the program from the start, and District Administrator Harald Altekrüger emphasizes: “Lausitz needs good people everywhere.” The South Brandenburg Medical Network is also committed to supporting young talent by arranging internships. Eleventh and twelfth graders from high schools in Guben, Forst, Spremberg, Neuzelle, Eisenhüttenstadt and the Fürst-Pückler-Gymnasium Cottbus can apply for the scholarship program.
