Escape from the police ends in the forest – four teenagers arrested!

In the early hours of Monday morning, more precisely at 4:15 a.m., a remarkable incident occurred in Fulda when a police patrol wanted to check a vehicle. However, the driver of the vehicle, a Range Rover, did not respond as expected and attempted to evade control. This incident led to a large-scale manhunt that even involved a police helicopter from the Hessian police.

The pursuit of the escape led the officers through the Gieseler Forest, where the vehicle finally turned onto a forest path. In an unfortunate moment, the driver hit a tree and got stuck. In the ensuing confusion, the occupants abandoned the car and fled on foot into the surrounding woods. However, shortly afterwards the police were able to arrest four young people between the ages of 16 and 19.

Background to the search

During the investigation it turned out that the stopped Range Rover was not legally on the road - the vehicle had only been stolen from the yard of a residential building on Bahnhofstrasse in Lauterbach in the hours before the incident. The findings raise the question of the extent to which the four arrested people are connected to the theft and which of them was actually behind the wheel of the vehicle.

Although the Fulda police quickly initiated an investigation and brought the four suspects to the police station, after the police measures were completed they were released or handed over to their legal guardians due to a lack of grounds for detention. This raises questions about the legal procedures to be applied to underage suspects.
