Fürstenfeld's green revolution: Austria's largest battery storage system!
In a revolutionary step for energy supply, NGEN GmbH inaugurated the largest battery storage system in Austria in Fürstenfeld on February 7, 2025. This impressive facility, with a capacity of 24 MWh and consisting of six Tesla Megapacks 2XL, will play a crucial role in stabilizing the electricity grid and storing renewable energy. “This battery storage system is not only a technical achievement, but also a symbol of what is possible when we combine sustainability and innovation,” said Roman Bernard, CEO of the NGEN Group. Commissioning took place just seven months after the project began, demonstrating the innovative strength of the NGEN team. The system will contribute to improving grid stability and security of supply, especially during peak times when electricity demand exceeds supply, by storing renewable energy and releasing it when needed, according to Matija Dolinar, Managing Director of NGEN GmbH.
New projects in Germany
But something is not only happening in Austria. NGEN GmbH has also entered into a strategic partnership with Uniper to build a battery storage system in Petershagen, Germany. This system will have an impressive capacity of 50 MW or 100 MWh and is expected to be operational by 2025. With a total of 26 energy storage packages, each containing rechargeable lithium battery modules, this facility will promote renewable energy integration and improve power grid stability. Jan Taschenberger, COO of New Green Power & Gas at Uniper, said: “Energy storage plays an important role in the development of green growth and our strategy.” Roman Bernard highlights that this collaboration will enable NGEN to drive innovation and make a significant contribution to a more sustainable energy system in Germany.
With the construction of battery storage systems in Austria and Germany, NGEN is impressively showing that the future of energy supply can be made green, efficient and intelligent. The projects not only underline the company's technological and innovative spirit, but also its commitment to driving the energy transition across the DACH region while creating economic benefits.
