A dog named “Fiby”, formerly known as “Uppo”, has experienced an emotional fate. The little four-legged friend was discovered in Hungary in spring 2022, where he was leashed on a heavy chain. Rescued by the animal protection organization “4Beiner in Not”, “Fiby” received the necessary care and finally found a loving new home. Now she can finally live in the safety and security of a family that gives her the love she has been missing for so long. As the Tyrolean crown reported, this rescue is a sign of positive change in animal protection.
Tethering of cattle in Germany
With regard to the animal welfare regulations for tethering cattle, there is an urgent need for improvement in Germany. There are currently no set regulations for cattle over six months of age, which means that tethering is not clearly prohibited. The draft bill for a new animal protection law stipulates that keeping cattle tied all year round will be prohibited from 2028. This is what the website reports Expertise for Animals. Austria and Switzerland already have stricter laws that drastically restrict tethering. In Austria there are many exceptions that allow year-round connection, while Switzerland has implemented a clear ban on permanent connection.
Recently, an estimated two million cattle in German-speaking countries are tied down, particularly in milk production. It is an urgent call for politicians to act promptly and protect the rights of animals. Animal protection urgently needs the political will for a comprehensive ban on tethered housing without exceptions, also in order to secure the progress that animal rights activists have already achieved in other areas.
