Food saves lives: This is how mobile rescuers help in critical situations
In an emergency, every second counts! In Essen, the “Mobile Rescuer” project impressively shows how quickly lives can be saved. Recently, this was dramatically demonstrated once again when a patient in Essen-Kray suddenly lost consciousness after a long illness. Her husband, desperate and determined, immediately called 911 and began CPR. While the fire brigade arrived within eight minutes, a qualified first aider was on the way three minutes after the emergency call thanks to a clever app. Key aspect: He came to the patient five minutes before the emergency services!
CPR requires immense strength and can quickly become strenuous. The additional first responder was crucial in supporting the husband and keeping the resuscitation efforts alive. Thanks to the valuable time strategy made possible by this mobile aid project, the patient was finally successfully brought to the hospital. Her husband now says very clearly: “If the mobile rescuer had not reacted so quickly, everything could have turned out completely differently!”
The secret of success of the “mobile rescuers”
The smartphone app for alerting first responders achieves impressive efficiency. When an emergency call is made to 112, the fire brigade control center uses GPS to locate the two nearest “mobile rescuers” and alerts them immediately. These first responders are often able to initiate life-saving measures while emergency services are still on the way.
In Essen there are a sensational 800 active “mobile rescuers” who have already been on hand to help with 1,600 emergencies since they started in autumn 2019! In a city with almost 600,000 inhabitants, even more in daylight, the enormous potential of this system is evident. Anyone who has medical training and regularly takes part in resuscitation exercises can register using the “Mobile Rescuer” app and thus become a real lifesaver in an emergency.
