HOFFMANN CONSULT and BLADESCAPE are revolutionizing high-precision drone data for car-free highways in Austria with Project DiTwin.
Drone magic: This is how the A2 will become car-free and safer in the future!
The innovative DiTwin project is being implemented in Austria and aims to revolutionize the use of drones to collect precise data from busy highway sections. Hoffmann Consult and Bladescape are the driving forces behind this initiative, which makes it possible to create digital twins of highway networks. This means that in the future it will be possible to explore highways virtually and monitor their condition with high accuracy. This makes a crucial contribution to the safety of all road users.
When flying over the busy A2, one of the busiest motorway stretches in the country, particular care was taken to achieve a high level of accuracy and overlap in the image recordings. Markus Hoffmann explained that the challenge was to collect data without disrupting the flow of traffic. This data is essential for detecting damage to the roadway at an early stage and reacting accordingly.
Technological innovations in use
As part of this project, demanding safety standards had to be met. The drones used come with special safety components, such as a parachute and a so-called flight termination system, which allows the drone to be switched off remotely if necessary. Gerhard Peller, Managing Director of Bladescape, emphasized that these safety precautions are essential for successful use.
The implementation of DiTwin not only represents technological progress, but also a significant step towards traffic safety. The high-resolution data collected by the drones can be used to make forecasts about the condition of the roads, which can influence future traffic conditions. This has the potential to not only prevent accidents but also increase the efficiency of road maintenance.
The new regulations in the EU open up new opportunities that were difficult to implement in the past. The project is seen as exemplary for combining modern technologies and improving transport infrastructure, which can lead to a more sustainable and safer transport solution.
