Corona measures put to the test: insightful discussion on MDR!
Leipzig (ots)
The question of whether a committee of inquiry is the appropriate platform for reviewing the corona measures is currently a concern for many citizens and experts. In an upcoming talk on the MDR program “Fakt ist!” On Monday, October 21st, at 8:30 p.m., this topic will be discussed in detail. The live stream is available on mdr.de/fakt-ist, followed by a broadcast on MDR television at 10:10 p.m.
The discussion will be held in Erfurt, where citizens, politicians and experts will come together to discuss the effectiveness of the investigative committee. Experts like law professor Prof. Dr. Svenja Behrendt from the University of Mannheim, the health policy spokeswoman for the Left Party in the Thuringian state parliament, Lena Saniye Güngör, and the Thuringian Ombudsman Dr. Kurt Herzberg will take part in the discussion.
The discussants and their perspectives
Dr. Stefan Wogawa, member of the BSW, has submitted the application for the establishment of a Corona investigative committee. "During the corona pandemic, all authorities more or less took precautions. We want to be prepared for another dangerous situation," said Wogawa. Lena Saniye Güngör fundamentally supports the need for such a committee, but expresses concerns that essential questions regarding the processing of the pandemic are not being adequately addressed.
For Dr. Kurt Herzberg focuses on the responsibility of politics towards citizens. He sees the need to clarify responsibility towards citizens, especially in times when Corona seemed less dangerous. This clarification is essential in order to better understand the political decisions made during the pandemic.
Prof. Behrendt brings a legal perspective to the discussion and explains that during the pandemic it was often necessary to weigh up the interests of citizens. She advocates the introduction of a study commission in which experts are involved before the questions are developed. “Such a commission could draw more decisive lessons from the pandemic measures,” she explains.
The event, moderated by Kathleen Bernhardt and Lars Singer, promises exciting insights into the challenges that both politicians and citizens had to experience during the pandemic.
This talk is not only a platform for dialogue, but could also help to bridge social gaps and promote a constructive exchange, especially in times when many questions about Corona policy are still unanswered.
The MDR talk “Fact is!” will take place on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 8:30 p.m. in the live stream on mdr.de/fakt-ist and will be broadcast on MDR television at 10:10 p.m. The program will be available in the ARD media library for a year after it is broadcast, so that those interested can access the content at any time.
