Chaos in the traffic light coalition: Is the government on the verge of collapse?

Berlin (ots)

In the last two turbulent years, the traffic light coalition made up of the SPD, Greens and FDP has had to struggle with internal conflicts more than once. But now this government alliance is on the edge of the abyss! A crucial meeting of the coalition committee awaits on Wednesday, at which Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and the party leaders must come together to clear the way for the 2025 federal budget. Failure could have dramatic effects on the entire federal government!

The biggest problem? The ideas of FDP leader and Finance Minister Christian Lindner, which fundamentally conflict with the ideas of the SPD and the Greens. The pressure on the coalition is increasing because there is more chaos and resentment than ever in the current situation. A clear compromise seems a long way off. The three parties must return to fundamental agreements because the political situation is tense - and in times of global crises this requires responsible action.

Political chess game

The coming federal elections are already casting their shadows. The SPD and the Greens are committed to a strong state, while the FDP is fighting for less regulation and lower taxes. But the Liberals are faced with a dilemma: in order to survive in the next Bundestag, they have to actively appeal to their core clientele after recently being kicked out of various state parliaments. A fatal trend that could put even more pressure on the traffic lights in the wake of political competition!

If the FDP does not find a clear course soon, it could fail at the five percent hurdle in the next election. A year ago, Lindner warned that now was no time for “gamblers” – perhaps his party colleagues and coalition partners would be well advised to remember these words as they face a possible political showdown!
